It is good to see some candidates have been re-elected Long-time councillors such as Dawn Crichlow, Eddy Sarroff, Jan Grew, Peter Young, Daphne McDonald, Bob La Castra and Ted Shepherd have all won comfortably.

Also after meeting Donna Gates on March 10 2008, who though small in size has a great personality. Donna took over former deputy mayor David Power in Division 2 in October 2007 and maintained her seat.

It is good the newcomers were given a fair chance and voted in by you the public they were Margaret Grummitt in Parkwood and pro-green candidate John Wayne in Division 1.

We do NOT agree with the fact that: Political analysts said the aggressive and well-funded Unite GC and Liberal campaigns fractured the vote and effectively cruelled each other’s chance of overturning the incumbents. We see it as people are always cautious about new things and uniteGC was one of them. As for the liberals problems well you just have to think they are responsible for the 3 letter word GST!

We were even tempted to break tradition and vote 1 liberal for mayor but, we could not betray a acquaintance and friend Rob Molhoek. Even though you will see at the related links below he is not perfect neither is everyone else and he was the best choice as his vote 1 rob4mayor & unitegc campaigns made the most sense.

There are a lot of problems with regard to pre polling and postal voting. Many of our friends have had a lot of problems not being able to get through to find out where to vote or what happened with postal vote from the ECQ.

We agree with the fact that: There is enough serious concern out there that Warrants a full review of the conduct of this 2008 Gold coast city council election so the same mistakes are not made again. a lot of problems are needed to sorted, then find solutions so that they don’t reoccur.

Seems as though the council should have been consulted more thoroughly before the state government took over not knowing what to do.
Quoted:
Mr Hallam said: "This is the first time ECQ have run the election," Mr Hallam said: "Councils have run it beforehand and they have much more particular localised knowledge about the elections."

Brisbane city council and Gold coast city council 08

The latest figures are in for the current elections for Brisbane city council and Gold coast city council being held this weekend March 15 2008.

Everyone is currently going on about labor and liberal parties fighting for the grasp of power now at a local level. OUR BIG news item is you politicians are not being paid by us hard working folk to fight, so leave the fighting out of it and just get on with what your paid for. OR AS the saying goes something like: Idle hands are the devils playground.

From what we have seen both councils have a number of people that make sense however there are only a few that really stand out.

It seems as though the most common candidates being chosen by the average voters are.

Brisbane Mayor
Campbell Newman

Gold coast Mayor
Rob Molhoek

In the divisions for the gold coast
Dawn Crinchlow
Peter Young

Injuries in race to polls Gold coast city council 2008

It does not look to good for the current Gold coast city council in the final week of the race to the polls. The governments and councils are trying to make people walk more but is is very hard to walk when you keep getting injured by the negligence of these same governments and councils.

We know first hand that many of the footpaths around Brisbane and the Gold coast have been damaged by Australia post & other brochure distributors causing grooves to be dug into the footpaths. In ourselves so far thankfully this damage has only caused twisted ankles and bruising. BUT just think about it someone could twist their ankle falling head first on to the road be run over and get killed.

Now for most of the country Postal & other brochure distributors should be being fined for it and not be riding on the footpaths due to the road rules.

Another issue is the placement of utilities points such as manholes for sewage access, Telecommunications pits and more. Walking down Greenacre drive around March 3 2008 I just came to the top of the crest at the round about and was starting to walk down the other side when thud, crunch my hip was forced up through my shoulder. It is now about a week later and I am able to move better now.

On top of this the lack of pruning & mowing recently has caused injuries to both myself and my partner. Walking up Napper road a few weeks ago in late February 2008 I slipped in the slime in the gutter on Benala street  that I could not see as the council had failed to mow the grass and clean the streets properly.

Walking up the footpath on Highview place Parkwood today March 9 I again came face to face with the ineptness of the Gold coast city council. I was walking along when suddenly the ground dropped from under me about half a foot, I was stunned to find what looked like a tree had been pulled out and the roots ground out.

Now think about this if I wanted to go bush I would drive out half an hour to the back of Nerang in which case I would know to be more careful. Compared to the fortune we pay to the governments and councils to keep our suburbs mowed clean and safe to walk in.

Most of the above injuries occurred in the current mayoral candidate Rob Molhoek’s division in which case after the elections we will due to popularity be welcoming Dawn Crinchlow to be our local councillor who should have enough clout to fix all the above problems across the Gold coast.

When voting on March 15 at the Gold coast city council it would be advisable to vote for the people who are going to do something about these sorts of problems. Currently the vote 1 for mayor would be a toss up between Tom Tate, John Bradford and Rob Molhoek. AND for division 6 as we said above vote 1 Dawn Crinchlow, to be our local councillor who should have enough clout to fix all the above problems.

Bear this in mind we are not clumsy people. Though if you vote 1 Ron Clarke you may end up with the same problems you may find that if you vote 1 Tom Tate, vote 1 John Bradford or vote 1 Rob Molhoek we are pretty sure you will be getting the best choice to fix the problems we will confirm this tomorrow when we see Melinda Molhoek.

Aussiess Census of housing and population

Well everyone has had their chance to have there say and be counted in this years census of housing and population. Those that were helpful and filled out forms we thank you those that have not filled out forms by now must have more dollars than cents and will, start getting fined this week. However good luck to all.

Just remember BIG brother is watching so those that think they got away with it should start wondering will they be caught when they do the next bank deposit, sell their house, expect a tax return, file a medicare claim, ask for a loan, claim childcare, buy a house, renew a drivers licence or registration or any other form of identifying information is required.

Some early statistics we have noted are 5% of people wanted to wait to the last minute, 2.42% were counted as refusing to comply, 0.3% of people were or created problems.
